Since Musafir works on many different projects, there are many ways that you can help out. The key is to find tasks that you would like to do and that you can do well. It’s also important to make sure that what you’re willing to do fits the needs of the project. Think about the following:
1) Do you want to work with adults, kids, in remote places, or from home?
2) Would you rather work alone or with a group?
3) Do you work better behind the scenes or would you rather be in the spotlight?
4) How much time do you have to give?
5) What skills do you have that you can use in a volunteer job?
6) What causes do you care about?
Think about what you like.
You will enjoy volunteering more and get more out of it if you take some time to figure out your goals and interests. Consider why you want to help out. What do you like to do? Most likely, you’ll have the most fun and get the most out of the opportunities that fit both your goals and your interests.
What do you hope to get out of giving back?
Find a volunteer job that fits your personality, skills, and interests to find the right one for you. Ask yourself if you want to do or accomplish something specific as a volunteer.
You might, for instance, want to:
- Make your neighbourhood better.
- Meet new people who have different ideas or life experiences than you do.
- Do something different.
- Use your free time to do something you’ll enjoy.
- Visit new places or try living in a different way.
- Try a different kind of job that you might want to do full-time.
- Your interests and hobbies should grow.
- Consider several volunteer possibilities
How much time should you volunteer?
Volunteering can help, but it doesn’t have to take over your life. In fact, research shows that volunteering just two to three hours a week, or about 100 hours a year, can help you and the cause you choose the most. The important thing is to only volunteer for as much time as you can handle. Volunteering should feel like a fun and rewarding hobby, not like another thing you have to do.
